The Eastern European bar in the burbs. Food is decent. Came here a few times during the day to watch a game. Mostly foreigners inside. At night if I remember you should dress more fancy - don't come in sweats! Have an outdoor patio that I haven't tried yet. Service is very slow and sometimes you can sit for 15 min until someone comes by. Kind of annoying but very typical of these type of euro places unfortunately. Have a good drink/beer selection.

We got the spicy feta chicken panini w greek fries, and it was fresh and delicious! Our server Petya was VERY nice and attentive! I would definitely recommend this place!

It is a great place to go there and have a drink! They serve food as well and the prices are reasonable. In the summer they have front patio so you can sit outside and enjoy the weather. The service is always fast! I've been there many times and so far I have no omplaints.

Great service. I haven't been here in a long time and now that I work close by they have a customer for life I'm me . Love the palachinki with shlag. :))))

I love this place close by house I come here all the time, the owner Chris is the best, all his food fresh and healthy, his bartender are phenomenal, I will come here again and again and I recommend this place to all friends and family

BF and I came here for lunch one day. The service was SLOW! Literally only 5 people there (including my BF and I)... Food was okay. Nothing to write home about... I ordered the California Chicken wrap- super bland. No flavors stood out. Dissapointing. My BF got pierogis and spicy feta dip. Spicy feta dip was good- the pita bread was amazing. Eh, probably won't be back. Forgettable and bland food.

Delicious! Super slow at 3 pm and excellent gyro and fries! Will definitely come here agin if I'm in the area.

I love this place for a relax night with friends or just my husband. Great coffee and multiple options. Delicious food and fair prices. On summer I love seating on their front patio. I was just here last night once again and felt like the customer service gets better every time and their bathrooms are very nice for females is a plus. It is a lil out of my way home but is worth stopping by.

This place is excellent! They have a huge selection of everything from coffee, smoothies and liquor to some awesome food. I have tried multiple things on the menu and they were all outstanding. Try the burgers, many different choices with lots of toppings. Ive eaten everything from Calamari, salads and wraps there and like I said it was all great. They have a huge outdoor patio with nice seating and the windows slide open too. The staff is always fast and friendly!!!

Place is really nice but it's a honey pot for snitches and undercovers so watch what you say at the bar or you might end up in jail

Very inviting space, nice decor, comfortable booths, bad service Drank: Lemon drop martini - not the best I've had, lemony, and very liquory, but tasty Food: Greek salad with ranch dressing - yummy. The pita chips that came with were great too The service: horrible! The waitress kept forgetting to bring us more water, she didn't understand what we were saying to her when ordering, and when she brought us the bill, she never came back to pick up our credit cards, we had to go find her. The music was all over the place, it went from 90s, to early 2000s, to current, and kept skipping around. Weird DJ. Overall a good place to relax at during the week with the girls, sip a cocktail and munch on yummy food.

This place has a nice laid back European feel to it, there are plenty of televisions and even a projector for catching a game or two. They show sports but it isn't your typical American sports bar atmosphere. The outdoor seating are is nice and big. Food is tasty and the salad portions are generous. The knock is that the service is a bit on the slow side.

Excellent food and drinks. Very good service as well. Extensive drink list and awesome outdoor patio too!

Great drinks! The martinis are delicious (the coconut is a must-try) and actually use a generous amount of alcohol, unlike alot of places that are stingy with the amount of alcohol in girly drinks. The service is ok. They don't disturb you, but they aren't super friendly either. We didn't mind it tho. We had a few of their appetizers- the roasted hummus, spicy feta dip (yumm!), appetizer platter and the seasoned fries. The dips were great and chicken was great according to my friends. Overall, great place and we'll definitely be back.

This is a great place to go anytime of the week whether your on a date, with a few friends, or with your family. The atmosphere provides a unique and inviting experience, the staff is amazing and friendly, and the service was exactly what you are looking for on a wonderful night out. We had a great time with delicious food and AMAZING drinks. $6 martinis on wednesday and a wide selection really created a fun and new experience for us. We will definitely be coming back here. Thanks for a wonderful experience Christopher.

I like to go to that place. A lot of my friends go there too but almost every time I go there is something wrong with the service. The girl with the black curly hair is always in a bad mood. WORST service ever was last week. I will give it another chance and after that i guess we all will go somewhere else to eat and have coffee

  • Chris J.

I usually get carry out and get it earlier than 'bar' time, so I can't speak to what it is like later at night, but I have ordered several times and have never had a problem with the service or the food. It is a small place, so perhaps, if very crowded, the staff might get spread thin? In any event, they have some pretty good sandwiches and appetizers. I recommend the 'Jerry's Special'. Not sure who Jerry is, but he has a good sandwich named after him.

Ah, decent place. A bit pricy, and exceedingly Russian populated (not Euro, it's very specific about that). This used to be a staple of mine growing up. If we didn't go to an ihop or equivalent, we'd dress up and go here if we had no plans. To clarify: it's one of those places that serves Paninis and alcohol, stays open pretty decently late (like 1 or 3am), and has loads of people from 17-25ish going randomly. This "type" of place fits about 10 or 15 places in the suburbs. It sums up as: people who are underage and can get drinks, or people who want to drink listening to euro music The music is pretty loud, so it can be hard to hear over someone. Also, it gets a bit crowded and busy, for a pretty small place, and notoriously blocks cellphone reception inside. I would say it's a worthwhile stop if you want decent panini's at 10 or 11 at night, but I can't say the the price is justified by the quality or quantity. So it';s kinda like a cafe with techno that serves alcohol, basically. Since it's in Des Plaines it is a common hang out for people in the surrounding burbs. edit: sanitizing review for clarity.

  • aaron s.

unless you are part of the crowd here you will be ignored and treated as something less than a paying customer. on a different review site someone was talking about a rude dude bartender, well that has not changed.... to be fair it is kind of nice inside and the premise of the place is good; its a shame that the business model is poorly executed. crappy sound system no subs, poor customer service, and delivered with attitude.

Quench that taste for Euro peeps here. All kinds of Euro people found. I hear the food is forget able. Guys, alot of the typical tight Armani Exchange shirts, I counted 5 in the bar last night. Women, most were lovely, very dark haired & very blonde. Our waitress was sexy, Aleksandra, I think was her name. They come around to check on you too often though. Nice enough, just, coming around every five minutes is too much. Drinks are poured quite strong. Wednesday night was $5 martini's. I was surprised how strong they were, its not often you find a suburban bar that serves a stiff drink on special. Call for daily specials. Many import beers found and the tallest beer is served in a 23oz. The bar is found in a strip mall near a liquor store which has an ATM. I never noticed before, alike most Euro bars look for that black tinted glass out front. During the warm season all the windows in front are pulled to the sides and the inside is turned into a beer garden. Music is Euro & progressive. Illusion's is drastic and fun on this side of boring Mt Prospect.

good luck going there if you're white/American (non-European looking). i got an amazon deal for this place (for martinis and appetizers) so i thought i would go on saturday night (03-10). the waitress literally threw the menu on my table. didn't even say "hi" , didn't even bring water (like she did to every other table), she took every single person's order (people that came in way after me) and never came to my table. i went to the bar and asked to speak to the manager. the manager said that she's sorry, they are short-staffed. BS. this doesn't explain the thrown menu and why the waitress went to every single table except for mine. the manager said the drinks would be on her. i said thanks, but no thanks and left. how rude is this place??? i emailed amazon and got my money back.

Awful awful awful service. If you don't look eastern european or dress in Armani, you are basically ignored by the wait staff. Smoothies are good. Alcohol is overpriced. Not worth it.

Great experience! Great food everything we ordered was made to order, quick and Delicious. Staff was friendly and made sure we were taken care of the entire time. Cool decor in the space with open patio seating. Will be going back this summer for a cold drink and great service!!

I first encountered Illusion Cafe years ago when a friend invited me to DJ there. Had a blast and fell in love with the venue instantly. I have a love affair for European style cafes, and Illusion hit it right on the money. Years later and I still love hitting the cafe whenever I am in the area. The interior is intimate, and I love that the owners work hard to keep the noise levels down so people can drink and converse. Yes they get DJs in there, but the music is more for background and ambiance. Much of the clientele is Russian/Eastern Bloc, but I'll say for the fellas they get a lot of eye candy in the place. The drinks (alcohol and non-alcohol) are ideal for me. If I order a cocktail I can see they don't skimp on the alcohol, and when I'm in the mood for coffee they have plenty of selection, including perfectly-made Greek frappes. The food is ideal for a cafe. Paninis, appetizers, salads, and yummy homemade desserts. I've never had a complaint about Illusion Cafe. I know they occasionally show UFC events on a projector screen. I'm hoping they'll carry the Euro Cup next year. For a welcome break from Starbucks, definitely check out Illusion Cafe. It's like taking that Euro vacation you went on all over again.

The place is very Euro.. lots of my peers hanging out and sipping on good strong drinks. I always go there on Wednesdays; during the summer it's our girls night out, with $5 martinis that are delicious and potent ;). During warm nights, they open up all the windows and the summer breeze reminds you of Europe and sitting outside at one of many pubs. Service is OK. When they are slow, the staff might seem too attentive, when it's busy, you might have to wait 15-20 min for a drink. So, some advice for when it's busy: order your next drink when you're half-way through your current one. The food items they have on the menu are pretty tasty, and I think they might serve it until very late at night (if not the whole night). If you're ever out in the NW suburbs on a Wednesday night, you should definitely stop by and have a drink (they do have about 20-25 different martinis on the menu; plus other "regular" cocktails).

unless you are part of the crowd here you will be ignored and treated as something less than a paying customer. on a different review site someone was talking about a rude dude bartender, well that has not changed.... to be fair it is kind of nice inside and the premise of the place is good; its a shame that the business model is poorly executed. crappy sound system no subs, poor customer service, and delivered with attitude.
